*Fehu

Fe-fe-hu, fe-fe-hu
Med rikedom är sällhet gjort!
Fe-fe-hu, fe-fe-hu
Med rikedom är sorgen gjort!

Fehu, Fé, bring to me not only prosperity, but also responsibility, for without the latter one will see nothing but failure.

“Full stocked folds, had Fitjung’s sons
Who bear now a beggar’s staff;
Wealth is brief, as the wink of an eye
Of friends, ‘tis most false.
The unwise man, if he should get
Wealth or woman’s love,
His arrogance grows, but not his sense-
On he goes, deep in delusion.”
-Havamal: 78-79

I see your form as a man with arms outstretched, welcoming what has come to him. This man sees his wealth never-ending, and spends wildly. He puts all he has, all he is, in the trust of wealth; it comes now to define him.

“Wealth be by all very much welcomed;
Each man shall deal it out freely,
If he will from his lord get approval.”
-Anglo-Saxon rune poem

I see you now, as a man lamenting. Arms outstretched, he reaches in mourning, that he might grab hold of that which has left him. As quickly as it came, as quickly as he put all he had into it, it has left him with nothing. In his arrogance, he burnt his bridges with those around him, and now he is left in darkness.

“Wealth causes trouble among relatives;
The wolf is raised in the forest.”
-Norwegian rune poem

I see you as the life of the forest; the bounty of new growth in Spring. Fertility it brings, and wealth to the farmer. You are the wild prosperity of Freyr, the golden wealth of Freyja.

Fehu is herds and fertile fields;
Freely, Freyr finds wealth for friends.

Fe-fe-hu, fe-fe-hu
Med rikedom är sällhet gjort!
Fe-fe-hu, fe-fe-hu
Med rikedom är sorgen gjort!
