*Wunjo

Wunjo

Goda dagar och nätter;
goda vänner och familj.
Wunjo får glädje och ett glatt hus.
Goda dagar och nätter;
goda vänner och familj.
Med vänner är glädje väldig.
Med glädje ska livet vara längt.

Joy to everyone who hears the song of wunjo; rune of joy. There is no strife here; there is no conflict here. The air is light and the laughter is heavy. All grievances are set aside, to drink and be merry. Wunjo is a happy hall.

“Joy knows no suffering,
sorrow or affliction;
has the prosperity and happiness of a castle.”
-Anglo-Saxon rune poem

One day weapons may be raised to strike, but today it is the horn full of ale, to toast to victory and prosperity. Even in the cold of winter, the sun will come again, so gather by the fire and await her in the company of good friends and family. The blessing of companionship can overcome any hardship, and wunjo heralds its joy.

“Young was I once,  and went alone,
and wandering, lost my way.
When a friend I found,  I felt me rich;
Man is cheered by man.”
-Havamal: 47

Wunjo is the next progression of the friendship kindled with Gebu’s gifts. It is the joy of companionship which comes from good friends and good family, which can allow one to forget about the strife and afflictions of the world that they face alone. Wunjo is joyous gathering even in the darkest of times, and especially in times of prosperity.

Goda dagar och nätter;
goda vänner och familj.
Wunjo får glädje och ett glatt hus.
Goda dagar och nätter;
goda vänner och familj.
Med vänner är glädje väldig.
Med glädje ska livet vara längt.
