Jara is the greatest of cycles. The cycle of life ever flowing and renewing, able to be witnessed by all in its entirety. Birth, growth, death and rebirth; all within the year’s mighty splendor. The seeds sewn early bring joy to men, for their toil brings forth rewards of livelihood. But he who lazily sits back, and does not give good effort, will see fields dead as before, and little to keep him fed in the winter months.

The fruitful field in summer is what prepares for winter’s sweeping death upon the land. But soon after, the soil is released from the chilling ice, and seeds may again grow to create fields of richness.

“Year is men’s benefits,
good summer,
fruitful field.”
-Icelandic rune poem

In this same way, the seeds sewn of one’s actions will yield their fruit, for good or ill. What effort is invested into one’s desires will later see those dreams fulfilled, or left wanting. Man is responsible for his life’s prosperity; there is no aid freely given to one who will not first help himself.

“Year is good to men,
when the god, holy king of heaven,
makes earth give fruits for rich and poor.”
-Anglo-Saxon rune poem
